STUDY AT OXFORD

The Oxford University Society in Victoria is an alumni organisation that enables members of the University residing in Victoria to connect and attend meetings or functions of common interest.  While the Society is affiliated to the University, it is not in any way involved in the process of admissions to Oxford. Nevertheless anyone with an interest in applying to the University is always welcome to approach Society members to learn of the experiences of those who have studied in the city of 'dreaming spires'. The best contact is secretary.ousv@gmail.com .

The Rhodes Scholarship

The Rhodes Scholarship is the oldest (first awarded in 1902) and perhaps most prestigious international scholarship programme, enabling outstanding young people from around the world to study at the University of Oxford.  The list of Australian Rhodes Scholars includes the names of many notable people who have gone on to make outstanding contributions in public life or in their chosen field of expertise and includes former Prime Ministers Bob Hawke and Tony Abbott, poet and novelist Lisa Gorton, renowned human rights barrister Geoffrey Robertson, former Australian Rules footballer Mike Fitzpatrick and Governor of Western Australia, Kim Beazley.

The Rhodes Trust offers fully-funded scholarships each year for post-graduate study at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. Rhodes Scholarships are for exceptional students whose intellect and character motivate them to engage with global challenges, while remaining committed to the service of others.

There are nine scholarships awarded in Australia each year, one by each of the states and three Australia-at -Large awards.

The Oxford Australia Fund was initiated in 1993, in connection with the Campaign for Oxford, to endow scholarships each year for exceptional Australian graduates to attend Oxford University in the United Kingdom for study and research.

The first scholarships were established at the Australian National University, with donations from Australian Oxford alumni and then with a large benefaction from the late Mr. James Fairfax AC. Since 1998, this Fund has awarded scholarships to 98 Australian graduates.
