Guest Speaker: Emeritus Professor Christopher Browne
Our speaker is Emeritus Professor Christopher Browne. He is programme director of Melbourne Rare Book Week and Honorary Secretary of Rare Books Melbourne Inc. Chris started collecting books while he was in Oxford in 1970. He bought a first edition of Ian Fleming’s James Bond spy thriller The Man with the Golden Gun for two shillings at a charity shop in Oxford. And it all grew from there. Chris estimates his current collection to number more than 13,000 volumes. He has a BA degree from the University of York and a DPhil from Oxford, where he was a member of Linacre College. After Oxford, Chris, who is a medical scientist, spent time at Monash and McGill University Faculty of Medicine in Montreal, before returning to Monash’s Medical Faculty for 30 years.
